Tesla Reportedly Set To Launch Home Battery
(RTTNews) - Electric car maker Tesla Motors, Inc. (TSLA) will introduce a new mysterious product line, but it is not a car, the company's founder and chief executive officer Elon Musk said in a tweet Monday.
"Major new Tesla product line -- not a car -- will be unveiled at our Hawthorne Design Studio on Thurs 8pm, April 30," Musk tweeted.
Musk did not provide any details about the product, but some experts believe the announcement could be related to stationary storage batteries for residential customers.
Musk said during the company's latest earnings conference call last month that the company would soon unveil a home battery that would be ready to go into production in about six months.
Tesla has already partnered with SolarCity Corp. (SCTY), where Musk is the chairman, on battery storage systems for businesses.
Tesla shares closed Monday's regular trading session at $190.57, up $5.57 or 3.01%, and gained an additional $3.14 or 1.65% in after hours trading.
