The Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJIA) is a group of 30 U.S. industry leaders. It's often looked at as a proxy for the market, since its components' performance is indicative of what's happening in the economy and the markets. The DJIA itself gained 14% in 2024, far underperforming the larger and more diverse S&P 500, which gained 25%.The five stocks at the bottom of the barrel, which pulled down the winners, were in fact, losers. Not only were they the tail of a year with growth, but they all lost value over the year.
