RATP Launches Experimental Fully Connected Bus Route Using Cisco IP Mobility Solution; Adoption of On-Board Connected IP Applications Increases RATP's Quality of Services

RATP, a leading innovator in Public Transportation, andCisco Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ:CSCO) today announced completion of thedeployment of an "Internet Protocol (IP) in Motion" experimentalproject on the bus line No. 38 in Paris. Recently demonstrated atCisco Networkers event in Cannes, RATP's No. 38 buses now get full IPconnectivity for RATP applications.

RATP is using this opportunity to accelerate the pace of adoptionof leading edge applications that are in the heart of their business. The technology provides realtime connectivity for 'Dilidam,' a keyinformation initiative for travellers on RATP transport network, including real time transit and localised passenger information, aswell as news or entertainment clips. The on board video surveillancesystem and other professional applications can now have permanent IPconnectivity, improving RATP quality of services.

"Improving our customers' security, safety and travel informationis foremost in our minds at RATP, and as the Information Technologydepartment we are proud to provide our company with technologyinnovations that directly serve our customers as well as increaseRATP's quality of services," commented Janick Taillandier, CIO atRATP. "An intelligent network is key to this initiative and IP is thefoundation."

Cisco's Mobile 3200 Series Wireless & Mobile router and Cisco IOSIP mobility solutions connect the vehicles to the RATP back endservers. The benefits of this connected mobility solution includeimproved security, safety and real time services for passengers anddrivers. IP mobility provides an automatic connection and seamlessroaming using the different wireless technologies, Wi-Fi and EDGE, andnetworks. With this innovative approach, RATP and Cisco aredemonstrating that IP Mobility technologies can seamlessly extend theenterprise premises to "on the move" LANs.

IP Connectivity is now available "on the move" due to an openecosystem including wireless service providers of any type as well asprivate wireless networks and a clearing house business function whichaggregates data flows and reconciles billing information.

A panel of industry experts at Networkers 2005 awarded RATP theMobility and Wireless award for its innovative implementation ofWireless and Mobility last December in Cannes.

"IP mobility extends the reach of enterprise intranets toprofessional vehicle fleets. IP connectivity across wirelesstechnologies and networks allows key customers applications tocontinuously run even 'on the move'," commented Michel Langlois,Senior Vice President, Internet Technologies Division, at CiscoSystems. "Development of open ecosystems, including hardware systemintegrators, wireless and mobile service providers, as well as MobileIP aggregation and clearing house mechanisms will accelerate theexpansion of the Internet to the transportation systems."

The Cisco 3200 Series is a compact, rugged wireless router that isdesigned to provide industry-leading security in data, voice and videocommunications, with seamless mobility and interoperability.Underpinned by standards-based Cisco IOS Mobile IP, the Cisco 3200Series extends the edge of the IP network, helping deliver newconnection capabilities and enable new applications in markets such asdefence, public safety and commercial transportation.
