Phillips-Van Heusen Corporation Commits to Donate at Least $1 Million to the National Park Service and Save Ellis Island Foundation in the Name of ARROW(R) Apparel
NEW YORK, Jan. 31 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Phillips-Van Heusen Corporation announced today that it has joined in partnership with the National Park Service (NPS) and Save Ellis Island, Inc. (SEI) to further advance the campaign to help rescue the historic buildings on the South Side of Ellis Island. PVH will be elevating its commitment to its ARROW brand's "We Are Ellis Island" campaign by pledging to donate 1% of its ARROW wholesale sales over the next 12 months to retailers who agree to participate but in no event less than $1 million. ARROW's "We Are Ellis Island" campaign is a comprehensive multi-media marketing initiative aimed at supporting Ellis Island's south side restoration projects.
"We are thrilled to make this new contribution and renew our commitment to a great American cause," said Emanuel Chirico, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Phillips-Van Heusen Corporation, who is featured in the ARROW campaign with his father. "By helping to underwrite the restoration of the buildings on Ellis Island's south side, we are demonstrating our commitment to preserving for generations to come this important piece of American history and the stories of millions of families."
The donation will be featured on the ARROW campaign's user-generated website, http://www.weareellisisland.org/. The site offers users the opportunity to read and watch American stories of hope and inspiration and to post their own family stories and pictures. It features the stories of actors, professional athletes, and celebrities describing the Ellis Island experience and pursuit of the American dream by members of their families. The site also provides links to donate to SEI, the non-profit organization dedicated to the rehabilitation of the remaining deteriorated buildings on Ellis Island.
"Ellis Island served as the first stop in the pursuit of happiness for millions of immigrants, making it one of those special places that unites us all as Americans," said Cynthia Garrett, superintendent of the Statue of Liberty National Monument and Ellis Island. "But as long as the buildings on the south side of the island remain shuttered to the public, the remarkable story of the immigrants who passed through here will never fully be told. I am so pleased to welcome the continued support from PVH in NPS and SEI's colossal effort to restore the once-thriving but now dormant south side of Ellis Island."
In addition to sharing personal stories, the WeAreEllisIsland.org website also enables visitors to learn about Ellis Island's history and the south side restoration projects that the campaign's donations will support. "Ellis Island reminds all Americans that we are a land of immigrants, people who were drawn to this country, since its founding, for the hope and opportunity it offers to all who work to achieve its dream," said Judith McAlpin, President of SEI. "We applaud PVH and the ARROW campaign in helping to generate interest in projects that will lead to the restoration of the south side of this national treasure."
The "We Are Ellis Island" campaign, sponsored by ARROW brand apparel, has generated over 1 billion impressions to date, with advertising featured in national entertainment and lifestyle magazines, television and cinema commercials, in-flight videos, eco-friendly hangers and online ads. Additionally, outdoor billboards in a dozen U.S. cities featuring the celebrity supporters and local residents carry the campaign's message. Future ARROW marketing initiatives, including the introduction of a specially designed t-shirt in support of the campaign, will continue throughout this year in collaboration with NPS and SEI.
