DHL Plans For Self-Driving Trucks Next Year

(RTTNews) - Deutsche post DHL Group plans to deploy self driving trucks, using Nvidia's Drive PX technology. The electric trucks will be available with the ZF ProAl self-driving system that utilizes multiple sensors, cameras, and radars to navigate the vehicle.

The companies launched the prototype at GTC Europe. They have no plans to replace driver for the vehicle, but to automate transport and delivery. The self-driving system will help drivers call vehicle to a desired location, using their smartphone.

DHL group has a vast fleet of 3400 vehicles and all will be fitted with the ProAl system in future. The logistics provider said, "There is no doubt that self-driving vehicles will change the world of logistics, as well as many aspects of our personal and business lives."

DHL has been testing PostBOT, a self-propelled electric robot in the German town of Bad Hersfeld. The PostBOT was developed by Effidence S.A.S of France. It can carry loads of up to 150 kilograms, taking the load off mail carriers' shoulders. The sensors help follow the mail carrier automatically throughout the entire route.
