Apple Admits 1970 Bug, Will Offer Update
(RTTNews) - Apple Inc. (AAPL) has officially confirmed that changing iPhone's date to January 1, 1970 or earlier can stop the device from turning on after a restart. The tech giant has said that an upcoming iOS update will prevent this issue from affecting its devices in future.
This "1970" bug was discovered last week when a troll became popular that asked iOS device users to set their device's date and time back to January 1st 1970 in order to unlock some new cool features. Instead, the bug would crash the users iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, effectively bricking the device.
Fake posts that looked like as screenshots from Apple's own website started circulating, which advertised an iPhone themed like an early Apple computer.
AppleCare has been flooded with people bringing in their devices after trying out this bug.
