Aflac Q2 Profit Tops Estimate

(RTTNews) - Aflac Inc. (AFL) reported net earnings for the second quarter of $810 million or $1.78 per share, compared to $889 million or $1.90 per share for the year-ago quarter.

Excluding items, operating earnings for the latest second quarter were $757 million or $1.66 per share, compared to $759 million or $1.62 per share in the prior year quarter.

Total revenues for the second quarter fell 3.4% to $5.84 billion from $6.04 billion a year ago.

Analysts polled by Thomson Reuters expected the company to earn $1.59 per share on revenue of $5.79 billion for the second quarter.

Looking forward, the company forecasts third quarter earnings in the range of $1.38 to $1.47 per share. Analysts currently expect third quarter earnings of $1.52 per share.

For fiscal 2014, the company now expects earnings to be in the range of $6.16 to $6.30 per share. Earlier, the company expected earnings of $6.06 to $6.40 per share.

Analysts now expect the company to earn $6.26 per share for the full year 2014.
