"Sun Life has a long history of supporting the YMCA of Greater Boston through youth programs and diabetes education, so I'm excited to get more involved," said deCastro. "As someone with a family history of diabetes I am passionate about awareness and prevention. I am greatly looking forward to working with the board and seeing how else we can bring more supportive and innovative programming to the Greater Boston community."

Sun Life, partnered with the Boston Celtics, has long been a supporter of the YMCA of Greater Boston and diabetes awareness. Each year they hold the annual youth Fit to Win program, which gets kids excited about fitness and nutrition, and the November #SunLifeDunk4Diabetes campaign, which supports the YMCA of Greater Boston's Diabetes Prevention Program, an educational program that helps at-risk adults learn about health, nutrition, and lifestyle habits to prevent type 2 diabetes.

YMCA of Greater Boston board members commit to serving the organization over the course of three years. As a board member, deCastro will help to govern and lead the more than 160-year-old institution and ensure that the Y delivers on its mission to strengthen the foundations of community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. For more information about the YMCA of Greater Boston, visit: http://ymcaboston.org.
