WellCare donates $1 million to Volunteer Florida to help with disaster assistance and recovery

TAMPA, Fla., Sept. 12, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Tampa-based WellCare Health Plans, Inc. (NYSE: WCG), a leading provider of Medicaid, Medicare Advantage and Medicare Prescription Drug Plans throughout the country, today announced the donation of $1 million to Volunteer Florida, the state's lead agency for volunteers and donations before, during and after disasters.

In partnership with the Florida Division of Emergency Management, Volunteer Florida coordinates with Florida Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster (VOAD) and local and state government emergency management agencies to meet volunteer and donation needs. The organization provides staffing during activation of the State Emergency Operations Center, mobilizes and deploys resources to assist communities responding to and recovering from disasters, and operates the volunteer and donations hotline and the Florida Donations Portal.
