Synta Posts Narrower Q2 Loss; Names Anne Whitaker CEO

(RTTNews) - Synta Pharmaceuticals Corp. (SNTA) reported a net loss for the second quarter of $22.3 million or $0.24 per share, compared to a net loss of $22.8 million or $0.33 per share for the year-ago quarter.

Analysts polled by Thomson REuters expected the company to report a loss of $0.27 per share for the second quarter.

There were no revenues recognized in the second quarters of 2014 and 2013.

Separately, Synta said that Anne Whitaker will join the company as President, Chief Executive Officer and a member of the Company's Board of Directors, effective September 2.

Ms. Whitaker has more than 20 years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry, mainly at GlaxoSmithKline plc (GSK, GSK.L) and Sanofi (SNY) including, most recently, the role of President, North America Pharmaceuticals, at Sanofi.
