(RTTNews) - Stein Mart Inc. (SMRT) said its July 2013 total sales grew 5.8 percent and comparable-store sales up by 3.7 percent. For the four-week period, total sales advanced by 5.8% to $74.6 million, from $70.5 million a year before.

According to the company, linens, dresses and intimate apparel posted the strongest sales for the month, whilst ladies' special sizes, men's sportswear, jewelry and ladies' casual sportswear were more challenged. Geographically, sales in July were strongest in Florida, the Southeast and Virginia, whereas the West performed slightly lower than the chain.

The firm operated 262 stores at the end of July this year, compared with 263 stores last year.
