Sony Q1 Profit Surges - Quick Facts

(RTTNews) - Consumer electronics maker Sony Corp. (SON.L, SNE) Thursday reported that its first-quarter net profit attributable to the company's stockholders was 82.4 billion yen, significantly higher than last year's 26.8 billion yen. Earnings per share surged to 70.36 yen from 22.94 yen a year ago.

Operating income for the quarter rose more than 38 percent to 69.8 billion yen.

Sales and operating revenue for the first quarter edged down 0.1% to 1.809 trillion yen. The Group said its sales were essentially flat on lower Mobile Communications sales and lower Home Entertainment & Sound sales, substantially offset by the impact of foreign exchange rates and strong image sensors sales.

In addition, Sony said its outlook for the full year 2016 remains unchanged.
