Sonic Announces Support for Blu-ray in Roxio Consumer Products and AuthorScript SDK; Showcases Blu-ray Creation and Playback at IFA

Sonic Solutions (NASDAQ:SNIC), the leader in digitalmedia software, today announced broad support for Blu-ray Disc in itsRoxio(R)-branded DigitalMedia Archive(TM), Easy Archive(TM) andDigitalMedia Studio(TM) consumer software products. In addition, Sonicannounced its AuthorScript(R) Blu-ray software development kit (SDK),enabling third-party PC application and consumer electronics chip,middleware and application developers to deliver Blu-ray-basedrecording and playback solutions. Together, these Blu-ray-relateddevelopments highlight Sonic's continued leadership in the opticalmedia recording and playback market as the new high-capacity,high-definition Blu-ray Disc format moves toward consumer launch.

Support for writing data to recordable BD will be incorporatedinto Roxio DigitalMedia Archive, the world's first Blu-ray-capablearchiving solution for home entertainment center PCs, as well as intothe Easy Archive component of Roxio DigitalMedia Studio, Sonic'seasy-to-use yet complete digital media burning solution. Currentlyshipping in non-Blu-ray versions on PCs from major manufacturers, bothproducts help users to quickly find and back up their personal mediasuch as music, photos, home videos, and TV shows. Roxio will also addBlu-ray support to its CinePlayer(TM) line of DVD player software,allowing PC viewing of HD video from Blu-ray Discs.

AuthorScript BD Navigator supports the keyplayback functions of a Blu-ray Disc title, including play, stop, fastforward, rewind, and chapter selection. AuthorScript BD Recordersupports data recording to BD-RE media, allowing storage of up to 27GBon a single disc, as well as the recording of digital video and HDTVto BD-RE media in the BDAV format.
