Google Inc. (GOOG) is gaining 9 percent to $ 971.50. The company's third quarter profit improved from the prior year period and its adjusted earnings per share topped Street view. Revenue rose 12 percent and came above the consensus estimate.

Facebook, Inc. (FB) is up more than 3 percent to $54.10.

Anacor Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (ANAC) is gaining 23 percent to $13.25. The company announced favorable ruling in its arbitration With Valeant Pharmaceuticals (VRX), and has been awarded $100 million in damages as well as all costs of the arbitration and reasonable attorney's fees.

Schlumberger Ltd. (SLB) is rising 2 percent to $93.18. The company's third quarter profit improved over 20 percent from the year-ago quarter. Revenue increased 11 percent and came above the consensus estimate.

Ariad Pharmaceuticals Inc. (ARIA) is plunging 27 percent to $3.27. The company announced that it is discontinuing the Phase 3 Evaluation of Ponatinib versus Imatinib in Chronic Myeloid Leukemia trial of Iclusig (ponatinib) in patients with newly diagnosed chronic myeloid leukemia. Ariad and the FDA mutually agreed that the trial should be terminated because arterial thrombotic events were observed in patients treated with Iclusig.

Alimera Sciences, Inc. (ALIM) is plunging 35 percent to $1.76 based the news that it has received a Complete Response Letter for the New Drug Application for Iluvien from the FDA. pSivida Corp. (PSDV) is down (PSDV) id down 48 percent to $1.98.
