Palm Hosts Special Screenings of ''27 Dresses,'' Starring Katherine Heigl, to Benefit The Princess Project
Palm, Inc. (Nasdaq:PALM) is working with The Princess Project, a
nationally recognized organization based in the San Francisco Bay Area
that provides prom dresses to girls who could not otherwise afford them,
to host eight special screenings of the upcoming 20th
Century Fox romantic comedy "27 Dresses,”
starring Katherine Heigl. The first 27 people to arrive to each
screening with a dress donation for The Princess Project will win a
brand-new Palm® Centro™
smartphone from Sprint. Tickets to the charity screenings are available
at participating Palm and Sprint Stores. The screenings will take place
on Thursday, Jan. 10, in Los Angeles, New York, Chicago, Boston,
Atlanta, Dallas, Washington D.C. and San Francisco.
Katherine Heigl kicked off the initiative by donating a dress she wore
in the film to The Princess Project. The Princess Project is an
organization that helps high school girls feel special on a night that
holds great importance to them by providing free prom dresses and
accessories to those who cannot otherwise afford them. Since the
organization began serving Bay Area girls in 2002, more than 7,000 girls
have received dresses and accessories through The Princess Project
giveaway days and events such as the Palm hosted screenings for "27
Dresses.” In 2007, girls came from 208 high
schools, 193 zip codes, and 76 cities throughout California. Donations
must be prom dresses, formal gowns or fancy party dresses from 2002 to
present, and be dry-cleaned and on hangers.
"Being that Palm is headquartered in
Sunnyvale, Calif., we felt it befitting to team up with an organization
that gives back to girls in the Bay Area,”
said Stephanie Richardson, product marketing manager at Palm. "Everyone
wins in this situation. Those giving away a dress they no longer need
can get a modern, stylish new smartphone that feels comfortable in the
hand, pocket or evening purse, and Bay Area high school girls who may
have otherwise skipped their prom get a fabulous new dress and get to
feel like a princess for an evening.”
From the screenwriter of "The Devil Wears
Prada,” "27 Dresses”
centers on Jane (Heigl), an idealistic, romantic and completely selfless
woman, a perennial bridal attendant whose own happy ending is nowhere in
sight. But when younger sister Tess captures the heart of Jane’s
boss—with whom she is secretly in love—Jane
begins to reexamine her "always-a-bridesmaid”
lifestyle. The Palm Treo™ 755p smartphone
from Sprint makes a cameo appearance in the film, which also stars Ed
Burns, James Marsden and Malin Ackerman. "27
Dresses” premieres on Friday, Jan. 18, only
in theaters.
