New Jersey Citizen Action, Ocwen and the NAACP Team Up to Help New Jersey Homeowners Explore Mortgage Solutions

NEWARK, N.J., Nov. 13, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- New Jersey Citizen Action (NJCA), Ocwen Financial Corporation (NYSE: OCN), and the NJ State Conference of the NAACP are teaming up on Thursday, November 16, 2017 at the Appian Way in Orange, NJ to explore mortgage solutions with Ocwen borrowers from across the state who are having difficulty paying their mortgages.

Homeowners are invited to join NJCA counselors and representatives from Ocwen and the NJ NAACP for a complimentary dinner and an informative presentation about how New Jersey Citizen Action's free HUD-certified Loan Counseling Program can help homeowners find mortgage solutions during difficult economic times. Registration for the event is required.

The event, which is exclusively for Ocwen customers, will include an informative presentation about state and local resources that may assist borrowers with making their mortgages more affordable.

Event attendees will have the opportunity to access free counseling services and talk with Ocwen Home Retention Agents about their mortgage. Attendees will be encouraged to schedule confidential one-on-one appointments with NJCA counselors, who will provide assistance on preparing a Request for Mortgage Assistance (RMA) package, help borrowers determine eligibility for state or federal foreclosure assistance programs, and facilitate communication with Ocwen on ways to make their mortgages more affordable.

"Homeowners in our communities are still struggling with their mortgages, so we have partnered with Ocwen and the NAACP to help borrowers by offering assistance and answers," said Phyllis Salowe-Kaye, Executive Director of NJCA. "At a time when New Jersey continues to lead the nation in residential foreclosures, assistance in exploring mortgage solutions and starting the application process for a mortgage modification, which can be a daunting and overwhelming process, is greatly needed. All we ask of homeowners is that they take this first step by coming to the event to ask questions and get information."

Bruce Davis, Economic Development Chairman of the NJ State Conference of the NAACP added, "The NAACP is committed to empowering local families with education and resources to achieve financial stability. We are pleased to work with Ocwen and NJCA to help borrowers who are having problems meeting their mortgage obligations find sustainable solutions."

"We are proud of our longstanding collaboration with NJCA and the NAACP to help families find mortgage solutions to avoid foreclosure," said Jill Showell, Senior Vice President of Government and Community Relations at Ocwen.  "We believe that when families succeed, communities succeed, and we are committed to helping homeowners in New Jersey find a path toward financial stability."

Homeowners who attend the event will also have an opportunity to schedule a one-on-one appointment with a HUD-certified counselor. Counselors will provide a free and confidential assessment and guidance through the necessary next steps towards a possible solution with Ocwen. NJCA counselors will be available to:

  • Facilitate communication with Ocwen's home retention agents
  • Assist borrowers as they prepare their Request for Mortgage Assistance (RMA) package
  • Determine whether borrowers are eligible for any state or federal foreclosure assistance programs
  • Listen and advise homeowners on possible mortgage solutions depending on their unique situations
