Microsoft Stands With Rival Apple Against FBI

(RTTNews) - Microsoft has reaffirmed its support to its rival Apple on its fight against FIB's move to access encrypted data from iOS devices. While speaking at the annual RSA conference on cyber security in San Francisco, Brad Smith, chief legal counsel of Microsoft said businesses should work together and speak up against government's move to access encrypted data.

Smith said the path to hell starts at "backdoor," a term used for break-in of software and there is a vital role in keeping people and their information secure. He stressed the need to "make sure encryption technology remains strong."

In connection with a shooting case in San Bernardino, a Federal court has ordered Apple to create a software to bypass security features on an iPhone used by a terrorist. Apple sought to appeal the court to fight against the order. Tech communities have been standing behind the technology giant. Microsoft has revealed its support last week and Smith has testified on Capitol Hill. Even, Microsoft has expressed its intention to file an amicus brief for Apple.

Apple's general counsel Bruce Sewell has said last day that "The FBI is asking Apple to weaken the security of our products. Hackers and cyber criminals could use this to wreak havoc on our privacy and personal safety. It would set a dangerous precedent for government intrusion on the privacy and safety of its citizens."
