McDonald's Large Fries Will Be Back On Menu In Japan

(RTTNews) - McDonald's says all sizes of french fries will be back on the menu in Japan on January 5.

The company is confident it has found ways around labor problems at U.S. West Coast ports that are limiting potato exports to Japan. Emergency airlifts and large shipments from U.S. eastern ports are on en route.

The fast food giant was forced to ration its iconic french fries earlier this month due to a severe shortage of potatoes.

"We will continue to monitor the situation carefully to do our best to ensure stable supply of potato products," it said in a statement.

The fry shortage came at a bad time for the company as it is trying to boost sluggish sales in Asia.

Comparable sales in the Asia/Pacific, Middle East and Africa or APMEA region decreased 4.0 percent in November, compared to the prior year's decline of 2.3 percent.
