L-3 Communications' SPAR Aerospace Awarded $20 Million C-130 Hercules Maintenance Contract by the U.S. Coast Guard

L-3 Communications (NYSE: LLL) announced today that itsSPAR Aerospace Limited (L-3 SPAR) subsidiary has won a contract toprovide depot-level aircraft maintenance services for up to eight U.S.Coast Guard C-130H Model Hercules aircraft (C-130). The firm-fixedprice contract, which was awarded after a competitive bid process, isvalued at up to $20 million for all eight aircraft. Work will takeplace at L-3 SPAR's facilities in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.

The contract award comes at a time when the U.S. Coast Guard andits C-130 fleet is taking a leading role in providing relief andresponse support to the U.S. Gulf states in the wake of HurricaneKatrina. The C-130 is the airlift workhorse of most air forces andoperators around the world and is used extensively in support ofhumanitarian missions like the current Hurricane Katrina state ofemergency and the recent tsunami in Asia.

"L-3 SPAR was selected because of its competitive pricing, itsresponsiveness to U.S. Coast Guard requirements and its C-130pedigree, developed over years of work for the Canadian Air ForceC-130s," said Commander Shannon McCullar, U.S. Government task leaderfor the U.S. Coast Guard contract.

L-3 SPAR's anchor customer is the Canadian Department of NationalDefence (DND). It has been providing maintenance support to the DND'sC-130 Hercules fleet since 1960, when Canada purchased its first ofthis aircraft. L-3 SPAR has performed all major modifications to theCanadian fleet, including cockpit upgrades, special missionmodifications, such as search and rescue and tanker conversions andstructural refurbishments.
