L-3 Communications Appoints Dr. Arthur A. Morrish Vice President and Chief Technology Officer for the Products Group

L-3 Communications (NYSE: LLL) announced today thatArthur A. Morrish, Ph.D. has been appointed to the newly createdposition of vice president and chief technology officer for theProducts Group.

In this position, Dr. Morrish will support the Products Group byreviewing and analyzing all of the Group's research and developmentefforts. He will also have responsibilities supporting various othertechnology and research and development initiatives within L-3Communications. Dr. Morrish will report directly to Charles J.Schafer, president and chief operating officer of L-3's ProductsGroup.

Dr. Morrish, age 48, has over eighteen years experience as aninnovative manager and developer of technical solutions for Departmentof Defense (DoD) challenges and he was recently awarded the Secretaryof Defense Medal for Meritorious Civilian Service. Prior to joiningL-3, Dr. Morrish held the position of director of the TacticalTechnology Office (TTO) for the Defense Advanced Research ProjectsAgency (DARPA). As director of TTO, he was responsible for conductinghigh-risk, high-payoff advanced technology development focusing onunmanned systems, space systems and tactical multipliers such as highenergy lasers, high energy density propellants and hypersonicpropulsion systems.

"Art brings to L-3 an advanced technical background in strategicmilitary development initiatives," said Mr. Schafer. "This expertisewill not only help L-3 develop new technologies on behalf of ourcustomers, but it will also support L-3 in identifying usefultechnology synergies from across the corporation, and enable us torefine our research and development efforts to develop new productsmore quickly and with advanced capabilities."

Dr. Morrish served at DARPA for eight years, starting in 1997 as aprogram manager, where he managed programs covering hybrid electricground vehicles, advanced aircraft and high energy laser systems, aswell as a number of classified programs. He served as the deputyoffice director prior to assuming the position of director of TTO in2002.

Prior to joining DARPA, Dr. Morrish worked at the Naval ResearchLaboratory as a research chemist, developing advanced infraredmaterials and thin film synthetic diamonds. In conjunction with histenure there, he also joined the Office of Naval Research to serve asthe deputy program manager for Aviation Low Observables.

Dr. Morrish received his B.S. in Physical Science from MichiganState University and his Ph.D. in Analytical Chemistry from theUniversity of Maryland. Dr. Morrish holds five patents related tosynthetic diamonds and is the author of over 40 publications.
