Google Names Auto Veteran Krafcik As Chief Of Its Self-driving Car Project

(RTTNews) - TrueCar's John Krafcik is joining Google Inc.'s (GOOG, GOOGL) self-driving car project, as its chief executive, in late September.

"This is a great opportunity to help Google develop the enormous potential of self-driving cars. I can't wait to get started," Krafcik said in his twitter post.

Self-driving cars could save 1000s of lives, give people greater mobility & free us from things we find frustrating about driving today, he added.

Krafcik, 53, an industry veteran, has previously worked with Ford and Hyundai. He comes to Google from car-shopping service TrueCar Inc., where he is president from April 2014.
