FBCL completion of traffic pilot project at the Blue Water Bridge
OTTAWA, Jan. 29, 2018 /CNW/ - In early September 2017, The Federal Bridge Corporation Limited (FBCL) initiated a pilot project to determine the feasibility of dedicating Toll Lane 1, to local traffic only at the Blue Water Bridge, Point Edward.
The Project was intended to enhance safety at the entrance to the bridge by eliminating the need for multi-lane crossings on Highway 402.
The objective of the trial period was to evaluate the implementation of a new approach that would keep vehicles entering Highway 402, between Indian Road and Front Street, in Lane 1 through to the toll facility. Based on staff input and customer feedback, we have determined that the goals originally put forward have been realised. Overwhelming feedback from staff, customers and local business owners was very positive. Hence, the lane will remain dedicated to local traffic.
After review of the data collected during the pilot project, FBCL will therefore maintain Lane 1 for local access.
We are committed to working with stakeholders to facilitate increasing traffic safety and fluidity.
