ESPN Sues Verizon

(RTTNews) - Walt Disney Co.'s (DIS) ESPN sports network has reportedly sued telecoms giant Verizon Communications Inc. (VZ) for an alleged breach of contract.

In a suit filed Monday in New York Supreme Court, ESPN has alleged that Verizon is wrongly including its programming in a new Custom TV service. The network is seeking an injunction and damages.

"ESPN is at the forefront of embracing innovative ways to deliver high-quality content and value to consumers on multiple platforms, but that must be done in compliance with our agreements. We simply ask that Verizon abide by the terms of our contracts," the company said in a statement.

Earlier this month, Verizon's FiOS TV service modified its programming bundles, offering new packages so that users can subscribe only for channels they prefer to watch. FiOS' starting plan costs $55 a month and includes two channel packs. Additional packages, consisting of up to 17 channels, cost $10 a month. In FiOS' new plan, ESPN is included in the add-on sports pack.
