Cypress Taps Paul Bentley to Head European Sales
Cypress Taps Paul Bentley to Head European Sales New Managing Director Will Leverage Cypress's Broad Product Portfolio and Design Capabilities to Claim New European Business
Cypress Semiconductor Corp. (NYSE:CY) has promoted Northern European sales director, Paul Bentley, to head up pan-European sales. Propelled by an increase in design win revenues of 25 percent last year, the company is hoping a new managing director and its broadest product portfolio in years will enable the company to claim greater market share. In 2004, the EMEA region accounted for approximately 15 percent of Cypress's global sales.
"This is an exciting time for Cypress," said Bentley. "Never before have we had such a broad product portfolio so well-aligned with the European market."
Cypress's product offerings, said Bentley, include its PSoC(TM) mixed-signal arrays, CMOS image sensors and SRAMs targeting automotive makers in Germany, Sweden, France and the U.K. They also include USB controllers, WirelessUSB(TM) radios, and crystal oscillators for consumer and computation applications as well as PSoC and WirelessUSB devices for industrial control. Cypress also offers low-power RAMs and image sensors targeting wireless handset makers across Northern Europe, and the industry's most-efficient silicon solar cells targeting residential and commercial customers from Germany to Spain.
Bentley joined Cypress in 1996 as European distribution director and was promoted to northern regional sales director four years later. During his tenure the company has managed to penetrate the mobile phone market in Europe, resulting in significant new revenue. Bentley started his career in semiconductor distribution in 1986 at Memec, and later served as a sales representative for Spectrum, another European components distributor.
As managing director, Bentley will oversee Cypress's regional sales offices in Belgium, Finland, France, Germany, Italy, Sweden the U.K., and sales representatives serving the rest of Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA).
"Paul Bentley consistently delivers solid results and is very much in touch with our customers' needs," said Ralph Schmitt, executive vice president of sales and marketing at Cypress, located in San Jose, Calif. "Since joining Cypress, he has grown our customer base in Northern Europe and gained exposure in new markets by engaging customers earlier in the design process. We are confident that his leadership and experience will translate into great results for our customers across all of Europe."
