CSC Signs New $135 Million IT Outsourcing Agreement With British Nuclear Group
EL SEGUNDO, Calif., Sept. 1 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Computer Sciences Corporation today announced that it has signed an information technology (IT) outsourcing agreement with British Nuclear Group, a leading provider of nuclear site management, decommissioning and clean-up services. British Nuclear Group is a business organization within British Nuclear Fuels plc (BNFL), the UK's leading specialist in nuclear technology and a global supplier of nuclear fuel products and services. The estimated value of the agreement to CSC is approximately $135 million (74 million pounds sterling) over five years.
The contract contains additional provisions under which British Nuclear Group may engage CSC in further project work as required in support of future IT development programs.
Under the terms of the agreement, CSC will manage and support British Nuclear Group's IT operations in the UK, including help desk and desktop services; software applications support; networks; midrange computing; telecommunications; and managed security. These services support approximately 12,000 users located at sites managed by British Nuclear Group across the UK.
The new agreement supercedes a previous five-year outsourcing contract awarded to CSC by BNFL in 2000 under which CSC provided similar services in support of BNFL's UK operations. The new contract will reduce costs and improve the productivity of British Nuclear Group's IT capabilities.
In addition to managing ongoing IT services for British Nuclear Group, CSC is playing a significant role in a major business change project being implemented across sites managed and operated by British Nuclear Group. Upon completion later this year, the project will deliver significant infrastructure upgrades and a new, integrated suite of project and financial control processes, systems and training for British Nuclear Group staff.
"The signing of this agreement with British Nuclear Group represents an important milestone in the evolution of CSC's relationship with the BNFL group," said Guy Hains, president of CSC's European Group. "The new agreement demonstrates CSC's ability to meet client needs and adapt to changing IT and business requirements. We look forward to applying our expertise and experience to help British Nuclear Group achieve operational and business results."
"We are delighted to further develop our relationship with CSC," said Brian Tenner, finance director of British Nuclear Group. "CSC is responding very positively to address significant changes in our business environment and working with us to meet the stretching targets set by our customers. The increased functionality and simplified business processes resulting from the business change project will deliver significant benefit to the business, and provide a robust IT platform in support of our future strategy."
