Children's Health System Selects Eclipsys for New, Fully Digital Expansion Facility

Eclipsys Corporation® (NASDAQ: ECLP), The Outcomes Company®, today announced that Birmingham, AL-based Childrens Health System (CHS), one of the 10 busiest pediatric medical centers in the country, has selected Eclipsys to create an advanced clinical information technology platform for a new, fully digital expansion facility.

As part of its "Keeping Promises initiative to create a state-of-the-art facility to help deliver the highest levels of pediatric patient safety amid a growing patient population, CHS will deploy Eclipsys acute care, pharmacy, medication management and evidence-based clinical documentation solutions. In combination, these integrated applications will help to create a closed loop medication management process, support complex dosing protocols, as well as more standardized care delivery across multiple sites to improve the quality and efficiency of pediatric care.

"Childrens Health Systems goal is to provide accurate, timely clinical data from anywhere so we can deliver the very best possible care to our patients. We envision doing this by implementing the Eclipsys Sunrise Clinical Manager suite, in particular its medication management solutions. By jump-starting this project using Sunrise Clinical Essentials, we should be able to start seeing benefits in as little as nine months, said Pamela Atkins, CPHIMS, Division Director, IT & HIPAA Security Officer, Childrens Health System. "This project, renamed i-Connect, has gained approval and support from the highest levels of CHS. We are looking forward to a successful implementation and a continued partnership with Eclipsys.

CHS has selected Eclipsys integrated applications, Sunrise Acute Care, Sunrise Pharmacy, Sunrise Medication Management, and Sunrise Knowledge-Based Charting, all of which are part of Eclipsys Sunrise Enterprise suite of solutions that reside on the Eclipsys XA extended architecture. In addition to other safety and quality of care benefits, the hospital plans to take advantage of the XA architecture to connect to its total perinatal nutrition (TPN) calculator, enabling clinicians to perform the highly-complex dosing required for certain pediatric patients within the closed-loop medication management system.

Clinicians also will be able to take advantage of PocketXA, a hand-held version of the Eclipsys acute care solution to support easy, secure access to the most current patient information across multiple sites. All of these mission-critical applications will be remote hosted by the Eclipsys Technology Solutions Center in New Jersey. As a result, the hospital gains system availability commitments, along with monitoring, reporting, disaster recovery and response-time warranties based on a predictable monthly service fee.

Plans call for the hospital to activate Eclipsys computer physician order entry solution in existing campus facilities a year prior to the completion of the new construction to support its cultural and process transformation.

"Childrens Health Systems decision to partner with Eclipsys is testament to our companys leading position providing clinical information solutions to Childrens Hospitals, as our solutions not only support simple order entry but also the most complex orders and documentation required in a pediatric care environment, said Jay Deady, Eclipsys executive vice president, Client Solutions. "This is an important move for this organization, and we look forward to providing them with the resources and support they need to successfully activate these advanced technologies and to help drive high levels of adoption and clinical outcomes.
