Basin Water Appoints James C. Spain Southwest Regional Vice President
Basin Water, Inc. (NASDAQ:BWTR) announced today the appointment of Mr.
James C. Spain to the position of Southwest Regional Vice President. The
appointment is another step forward in the company’s
plan to provide local support for its customers and nationwide expansion
through the establishment of five sales regions serving the potable
water market. Mr. Spain is the second named Regional Vice President for
Basin Water, and will oversee all of the company’s
sales and service operations for the southwestern states of Colorado,
Texas, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Kansas, Nebraska, Missouri, Arkansas, and
Louisiana. Mr. Spain has served Basin Water since 2007 as Director of
Process Engineering, and brings a dynamic combination of technical and
logistical expertise to the task of developing Basin Water’s
business in this region. He will be located in Houston, Texas.
According to Michael M. Stark, President and Chief Executive Officer of
Basin Water, Mr. Spain’s appointment will
bolster the company’s efforts to provide
innovative, reliable water treatment solutions to all of its customers
in the region. "Basin Water’s
expansion into new territories, new markets and new technologies has
progressed effectively so far, largely due to our finding top-notch
people to guide its progression,” Stark said. "With
his extensive expertise in process design and logistics, product
reclamation from waste streams and service to the refining industry,
James Spain is an ideal fit to lead our business in this region. He also
brings the sales and management savvy necessary to run the region
efficiently and ensure our customers of the best water treatment
technology and service available,” he added.
Prior to serving at Basin Water, Mr. Spain held the position of Vice
President, Operations at MPR Services, Inc. (a subsidiary of Tessenderlo
Kerley, Inc.) where he managed operations for the refining services
company that provided solvent reclamation services to the refining,
petrochemical, gas and steel industries. During his tenure he oversaw a
significant expansion of the company’s mobile
services business and plant processing sites, resulting in an increase
in operating rate of return from 0% to 20%. Mr. Spain also worked at
Tessenderlo Kerley, Inc. as Regional Plant Manager, South Region, with a
broad range of duties including supervision of operations, shipping,
engineering and safety/environmental departments, quality control
laboratory and administrative office. He also served as a
Project/Process Engineer at Tessenderlo Kerley headquarters in Arizona
and assisted in plant design, expansion, start-up and process
development.
The Basin Water business model of low lifecycle cost solutions for
potable water supplies – providing
proprietary, customized technology on a service basis supported by
performance guarantees – has achieved
acceptance with both public and private potable water systems, primarily
in the Southwestern United States. The company is in the process of
developing a larger, national presence in both the potable water and in
the industrial water market, utilizing the same business model while
offering customers a wider range of technology. A key element of the
growth plan is establishing five municipal and one industrial sales
region across the country. This will allow the company to provide close,
local attention to customers’ needs and to
achieve economies of scale, while also identifying new business
opportunities that are region-specific.
"Basin Water’s
focus has always been on the delivery of low lifecycle cost
technology+service solutions that are tailored to meet our customer’s
needs at the site. We back our solutions with a performance guarantee
because we are confident in the ability of our technical and service
personnel to get the solution right every time,”
Stark said. "James Spain is an excellent
example of the deep technical and market understanding that we offer our
customers, and we’re proud and excited to
have him guiding our growth in this important region,”
he continued.
In addition to his tenure at Tessenderlo Kerley and its subsidiary, Mr.
Spain served for two years as a Process Engineer at ARCO Chemical
Company while earning his B.S. in Chemical Engineering from Texas A&M
University. He resides in Kingwood, TX.
