AOL Plans To Close Some Websites And Jobs : Reports

(RTTNews) - Web services company AOL Inc. (AOL) is planning to close some websites as part of a restructuring at the company, according to reports citing a person with knowledge of the matter.

The reports quoted the person as saying that the Web portal is looking to close underperforming sites and switch resources to other AOL-owned properties that are performing better, without specifying which sites are being considered for shutdown.

AOL is working to become a key player in programmatic advertising, or the automated buying and selling of ads online.

TechCrunch reported Monday its parent company is preparing to lay off staff and close or fold up underperforming titles as part of a bigger restructuring, aimed at simplifying the company around ad tech, stronger content operations and video. However, TechCrunch said that the information didn't come directly from the corporation.
