AFLAC Inc Earnings Drop 4% In Q1

(RTTNews) - AFLAC Inc (AFL) announced a profit for first quarter that dropped compared to the same period last year.

The company said its earnings came in at $676 million, or $1.47 per share. This was lower than $705 million, or $1.74 per share, in last year's first quarter.

Analysts had expected the company to earn $1.62 per share, according figures compiled by Thomson Reuters. Analysts' estimates typically exclude special items.

The company said revenue for the quarter fell 2.6% to $5.31 billion. This was down from $5.45 billion last year.
