VENEZUELA: Uruguay Demands Debt Payment To Companies

(RTTNews) - Uruguayan Foreign Minister Rodolfo Nin Novoa urged the government of Nicolás Maduro to find a way to repay the debt owed to several Uruguayan companies that sold goods to the country. Novoa's request came after a meeting with his Venezuelan counterpart, Jorge Arreaza.

In July 2015, the president of Uruguay, Tabaré Vázquez, and Maduro, signed an agreement for the exchange of 235,000 tons of food for US$ 300 million. However, Venezuela delayed the settlement and still needs to pay part of its debt for that transaction.

According to the Uruguayan Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Novoa and Arreaza also spoke about the political situation in Venezuela.
