U.S. Consumer Prices Unchanged In January

(RTTNews) - Consumer prices in the U.S. came in flat in the month of January, according to a report released by the Labor Department on Friday, although the report also showed a bigger than expected increase in core prices.

The Labor Department said its consumer price index was unchanged in January after edging down by 0.1 percent in December. Economists had expected prices to dip by another 0.1 percent.

Excluding food and energy prices, the core consumer price index rose by 0.3 in January following a 0.2 percent increase in the previous month. Core prices had been expected to inch up by 0.1 percent.
