Yahoo Editor-in-Chief Quits Amid Management Shake Up
(RTTNews) - Yahoo's (YHOO) Editor-in-Chief Jai Singh has quit the company, a day after the firing of firing of COO Henrique De Castro, sources tell CNBC's Re/Code.com.
Re/Code on Thursday published an internal email to Yahoo employees from CEO Marissa Mayer. In that memo, Mayer announced that Singh's media unit will now report to chief of marketing Kathy Savitt.
Singh, a trained journalist, was likely disappointed that Yahoo's media wing will answer to the marketing department, according to Jon Xavier of the Silicon Valley Business Journal.
Mayer also told employees that it was her decision to part with de Castro, who ran the company's ad business for 15 months.
"During my own reflection, I made the difficult decision that our COO, Henrique de Castro, should leave the company. I appreciate Henrique's contributions and wish him the best in his future endeavors," she wrote.
The shake up at Yahoo! comes as Mayer tries to boost revenues for a company that had lost its way before she moved over from Google.
While Mayer has earned enormous praise for leading Yahoo!'s turnaround, Castro's ouster has raised concerns that sales efforts are not paying off as expected.
Meanwhile, Yahoo! has been searching for months to have two newcomers on its board who have experience running a company, the Wall Street Journal reported, quoting a person familiar with the situation.
