Wynn: Nobody Likes Being Around Poor People
(RTTNews) - Steve Wynn, the founder of casino operator Wynn Resorts Ltd. (WYNN), has come under fire for the comments he made about poor people.
According to a CNBC report, the billionaire mogul told a group of investors on Wednesday night that his company is more of a luxury brand like Chanel or Louis Vuitton that focuses on people with money.
To drive home the point about the appeal of a luxury product, Wynn said, "Rich people only like being around rich people. Nobody likes being around poor people, especially poor people. So we try and make the place feel upscale for everyone."
However, Wynn, estimated by Forbes to be worth about $2.8 billion, also said that unlike Chanel and Louis Vuitton, his business was able to cater to all of the market.
Wynn was likely emphasizing that he wants to create an environment of wealth for people of all socioeconomic classes to enjoy.
Nevertheless, Wynn's comments are seen as also igniting the flames of the class war, especially as the comments about poor people came from the mouth of a billionaire.
