(RTTNews) - Wells Fargo & Co. (WFC) posted a 14 percent rise in first-quarter net income to $5.9 billion, or $1.05 a share, compared with the year-ago period's $5.2 billion, or $0.92 per share. On average, 31 analysts polled by Thomson Reuters expected earnings per share of $0.97 for the quarter. Analysts' estimates typically exclude one-time items.

Quarterly net income applicable to common stock was $5.61 billion, higher than last year's $4.93 billion.

During the quarter, the company clocked $20.625 billion in total revenue, versus $21.26 billion reported a year back. Analysts estimated revenues of $20.60 billion for the quarter. For the reporting period, net interest income totaled $10.6 billion, and noninterest income amounted to $10.0 billion.
