SUN CITY CENTER, Fla.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 27, 2005--Where can baby boomers find the finest clubhouse in the United States? According to the National Association of Homebuilders, it's Club Renaissance at Sun City Center, Fla., developed by WCI Communities, Inc. (NYSE:WCI).
On Jan. 13, the $10 million, innovative, health and wellness-driven destination won the NAHB Senior Housing Council's two highest clubhouse honors: the prestigious Juror's Innovation Award which recognizes forward-thinking design and the Platinum Award for "Best Community Center for an Adult Community with over 1,000 Homes." Awards were presented at the International Builder's Show in Orlando and were selected from over 360 entries in all categories.
"This nationwide recognition is the exclamation point for WCI, following our being named 'America's Best Builder' by Builder Magazine in 2004," said Jerry Starkey, WCI President. "Winning honors for the best age-qualified clubhouse in America highlights our commitment to amenity rich communities that reward an active lifestyle."
Club Renaissance appeals to a new generation of active retirees and melds exclusivity with the latest wellness, fitness and body treatment programs. Monthly seminars on diet and nutrition are part of the club's membership package. Head past the Pilates and kick boxing classes and juice bar to the second floor and you'll find residents doing cardiovascular work on an indoor walking/jogging track.
Located between Tampa and Sarasota in Sun City Center, the 40,000 square-foot clubhouse serves as a landmark to the community's adjacent master-planned neighborhoods. Club Renaissance is WCI's largest clubhouse to date. The clubhouse is set among upscale and spacious homes in the Renaissance community, which features an 18-hole golf course designed by Chip Powell. Prices range from $154,990 to $439,990.
Club Renaissance's Mediterranean eclectic design is a departure from conventional senior clubhouses. It incorporates traditional Mediterranean elements and Tuscan and Spanish Colonial architecture.
As Frank Lloyd Wright once said, "Spaces should steer the senses." With that philosophy in mind, the clubhouse has a relaxed look, versus imposing architecture seen in many clubs which are designed as "one size fits all" community centers. The clubhouse was designed to be "long and low" in the style of a classic country club. Other departures from traditional club design: deletion of billiards and card rooms, and placement of locker rooms away from the golf pro shop and next to the Fitness Center. The latter allows golfers a privacy buffer after they've finished their round.
The floor plan has four main areas: reception/lobby, two dining areas, pro shop and golf course facilities, and a two-story health club.
An airy porte cochere leads to a grand entry with functional wine displays. Bacchus, the club's private dining room, seats over 100 and views the resort pool and championship golf course. Monthly seminars on diet and nutrition are part of the membership package. Beyond Bacchus' rear glass wall is a poolside and outdoor dining terrace. Also setting the tone for the focus on health and nutrition is Da Vinci's, a mahogany-lined juice bar where residents enjoy light spa cuisine and fresh juices.
Casual diners can opt for Amici's, an adjacent upscale restaurant and bar which seats 120. As an added touch of sophistication, Amici's has a "Display Kitchen" glass window that gives patrons a glimpse of the culinary world and a seat at the chef's table. Adjoining Amici's is the golf pro shop, cart storage and service yard facilities.
Club Renaissance's first floor Fitness Center is comprised of five sections: a Mind and Body Studio for high-impact aerobics, kickboxing, Pilates, spinning and yoga; a Wellness Center with personal trainers, state-of-the-art cardiovascular equipment, and weight stations; locker rooms; full-service spa; and a second-story walking/jogging track that overlooks first-floor fitness areas.
The walking/jogging track is one of the club's innovative designs. It circles the fitness areas and the track's large windows view the first-floor and pool, emphasizing fitness and the club's connection to the outdoors. For safety and maximum results the track is made of Tufflex compound rubber. The palm-lined, heated pool has a dedicated lap lane and a deep-water and aqua aerobics section. A hot tub located on an expansive sun deck offers more relaxation.
To further wind down, Club Renaissance has a quiet sanctuary for personal revitalization: Spa Celeste. The full-service spa has four treatment and cosmetic rooms used by licensed practitioners to deliver spa treatments. Skin care and beauty services at the spa include massages, facials, manicures and pedicures. A $40,000 Vichy Shower room offers a revolutionary "body facial" and is the featured treatment. Among the numerous treatments offered: reflexology, sugar and paraffin treatments, salt scrubs, and hot stone and aromatherapy massages.
Sun City Center is 55-and-over, age-qualified community set on 5,000 acres. The community features club condominiums, attached villas, single-family and estate homes, 153 holes of golf, 19 tennis courts, three recreational centers, and over 200 clubs and organizations.
