Unum Group Q3 Profit Declines - Quick Facts

(RTTNews) - Unum Group (UNM) Monday reported third-quarter net income of $205.7 million, or $0.78 per share, compared to $230.2 million, or $0.83 per share in the same period last year.

After-tax operating income for the quarter was $224.6 million, or $0.85 per share, from $224.0 million or $0.80 per share in the year-ago period. On average, 17 analysts polled by Thomson Reuters expected the company to earn $0.82 per share for the quarter. Analysts' estimates typically exclude special items.

Total revenue for the latest third quarter declined to $2.54 billion from $2.63 billion last year, eight analysts expected revenues of $2.59 billion.

Looking ahead, the company expects growth in after-tax operating earnings per share to be in the higher end of the outlook range announced in December 2012 of zero percent to six percent, including the effect of expected share repurchases.
