TSX Slips At Open Thursday
(RTTNews) - Toronto stocks moved down at open Thursday amid selling in energy and financial stocks, with the S&P/TSX Composite Index shedding 45.55 points or 0.33 percent to 13,575.99.
In the oil patch, Suncor Energy (SU.TO) and Imperial Oil (IMO.TO) lost around 1 percent each.
Among financial stocks, TD Bank (TD.TO) and CIBC (CM.TO) were down around 1 percent each.
Manulife Financial (MFC.TO) announced that its subsidiary, Manulife (International) Limited has completed transaction to sell its life insurance business in Taiwan to CTBC Life Insurance Co., Ltd. The stocks lost 1 percent.
Meanwhile, gold stocks were firm amid a rebound in bullion prices. The Global Gold Index jumped close to 3 percent, with Seabridge Gold (SEA.TO) adding over 4 percent. Royal Gold (RGL.TO) and Goldcorp. (G.TO) gained around 3 percent each.
Transportation systems maker Bombardier Inc. (BBD_A.TO, BBD_B.TO) moved up nearly 1 percent after announcing that its Aerospace unit received $2.2 billion firm order for 38 Bombardier business aircraft from an undisclosed customer.
