TSX Rally Led Once Again By Energy Stocks -- Canadian Commentary
(RTTNews) - Canadian stocks edged higher Friday, ending a volatile week on a high note thanks again to surging energy stocks.
The S&P/TSX composite index added 98.40 points to settle at 13,865.07.
Energy shares rose 3%, with Trican Well and Trilogy Energy soaring more than 18% each.
Nymex oil futures settled 6.3% higher on day, picking up $2.66 to $45.22 a barrel. Futures rose 11.8% on week.
Word that Venezuela wants an emergency meeting to discuss cutting OPEC oil production has sparked crude oil's rapid rise.
Base metal stocks added 1.8%, extending whopping gains from the previous session.
Gold shares added another 3.7%.
Scotiabank (BNS, BNS.TO) earnings came in line with the Street view. Further, the company said it raised its quarterly dividend by 2 cents.
Financial stocks were flat after advancing earlier in the week on strong earnings from Scotiabank rivals.
