The Swiss Stock Market Climbed Again Friday
(RTTNews) - The Swiss stock market finished Friday's session with another strong gain, adding to the gains from the previous two days. The euphoria from the Federal Reserve's decision late Wednesday to begin tapering its massive bond-buying program lingered at the end of the trading week.
Investor sentiment also received a boost from the unexpected upward revision to U.S. GDP. Trading was generally quiet today, as investors begin to wind down their year, ahead of the upcoming holidays. Over the next two weeks, the Swiss Stock Exchange will be open for only four days.
The Swiss Market Index increased by 0.66 percent Friday and finished at 8,086.41. The SMI ended the trading week with an overall gain of 3.2 percent. The Swiss Leader Index climbed by 0.64 percent Friday and the Swiss Performance Index added 0.74 percent.
Schindler was one of the top gainers at the end of the week, with an increase of 2.4 percent. The company confirmed its fourth quarter guidance and announced that it has to write off the investment in the South Korean Hyundai Elevator.
The index heavyweights all finished in the green Friday. Nestle led the way with a gain of 1.2 percent. Roche advanced by 0.9 percent and Novartis added 0.1 percent.
