The LEAD Program and Hire Our Heroes Team Up to Bring a One-Of-A-Kind Veteran Transition Program to Norfolk

NORFOLK, Va., Aug. 23, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- For the first time in its five-year history, the Military Veterans Transition Playbook (MVTP) program is coming to the Hampton Roads area. This free event is designed to help military personnel and veterans transition back to civilian life. It's estimated there are nearly 70,000 veterans in the Hampton Roads area, making it an ideal location for the first stop on MVTP's U.S. tour. The Military Veterans Transition Playbook Event will be held Thursday, September 21st from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Hilton Norfolk- The Main (100 East Main Street, Norfolk, VA. 23510).

A collaboration between the LEAD Program, X-Corp Solutions and Hire Our Heroes, the Military Veterans Transition Playbook was created to engage, train and mentor our amazing service men and women through their journey back to civilian life, beginning two years prior to leaving the military. Using the principles outlined in the MVTP program, Cesar Nader, a 20 year US Marine Corps Veteran, has helped hundreds of military personnel as they take the steps necessary to transition back into civilian life.

"It takes 6-14 weeks to train a civilian for military life. In contrast, the transition process out of the military takes only one week."

Cesar Nader, Retired, United States Marine, Executive Director - Military Veterans Transition Playbook Program.

At the MVTP event, attendees will learn:

  • WHEN to plan for their transition,
  • WHO they are as a professional,
  • WHAT is the best fit for them in the civilian arena,
  • HOW to achieve their greatest professional goals,
  • WHERE to find the best resources to achieve those goals,
  • Act with a decisive plan to execute their professional strategy.

At the end of the program, participants will have a plan to execute their professional strategy. The event will feature mentoring sessions, entrepreneurship training, employment guidance and assistance, educational resources and a one of a kind transition plan that will help them succeed as they transition back into civilian life.

Many of the MVTP trainers are veterans themselves, providing a certain level of built-in comradery and allowing them to share personal successes and challenges related to transition. What sets this event apart from other transition programs is that it provides an all-inclusive platform for businesses, educational institutions, government agencies, and other non-profits to share their initiatives with these veterans and help decrease the number of homeless and unemployed veterans in our communities and across the U.S.
