Sallie Mae's Great Giveaway Program Tops $1 Million in Student Loan Relief

RESTON, Va., July 27 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Sallie Mae, the nation's leading provider of education funding, today announced that it has awarded more than $1 million in student loan relief since the inception of its Great Sallie Mae Giveaway program. The Great Sallie Mae Giveaway is a sweepstakes that rewards one student loan borrower each month with up to $25,000 toward his or her outstanding Sallie Mae student loan balance.

The most recent winner, Saint Cloud, Minn., resident Kristin Stewart, was awarded $25,000 by Sallie Mae to satisfy the majority of her outstanding student loan obligations. Stewart graduated in 1993 with a law degree from Hamline University in St. Paul, Minn., and is a manager of the compliance consultant services group for a financial services company. Stewart first learned of the sweepstakes while reviewing her monthly loan payments on Sallie Mae's online loan payment Web site, http://www.manageyourloans.com/.

Since 2001, the program has provided repayment relief to 70 student loan customers:
