Rock Da Vote Event September 18th
HIGHLAND, Ind., Sept. 13, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- In an effort to increase voter turnout in Lake County, IN, the "Rock Da Vote in Da Region" music event will be held Tuesday, September 18, from 6:00 to 10:30 pm at Wicker Park Social Center. This event is sponsored by the Lake County Democratic Central Committee and the Lake County Young Democrats.
Betsy Hunt, who organized the event, said, "Our goal is twofold: to increase voter registration and get the 18-21-year-old voters out. Rather than a typical meet and greet, having a music concert event will allow the public to relax and enjoy local bands and food trucks while also meeting and talking with local Democratic candidates."
There will be a table for voter registration, check registration and voting information along with Democratic candidate tables. Attendees will be able to speak with candidates in the Social Center while the bands perform outside. Rock da Vote is fashioned after the successful Wicker Park Summer Concert Series, which provides a beautiful outdoor area to sit, relax and enjoy the music.
Local bands, Funky Mojo Daddy will play from 7:00 – 8:15 and Upside-down & Backwards from 8:45 – 10:00 pm. The two bands will jam together from 10 – 10:30 pm to close the event. Wicker Park Social Center is located at 2125 Ridge Road, Highland, Indiana. There is a cash bar, and non-alcoholic beverages, and food for purchase from local food truck vendors.
Added Hunt, "November 6th is a critical election for the Democrats. It's really important that people understand how crucial their vote is. This is an opportunity for voters to hear from the Democrats and decide for themselves who they'll vote for. It's also possible Indiana will turn one of the nine seats blue in the Senate."
With the mid-term elections weeks away, Mitch McConnell, the Senate majority leader said when asked if Republicans would hold the majority in Congress, that nine states including Indiana were "dead even" and likened it to a "knife fight in an alley". Republicans have a slim 51-49 Senate majority.
Doors open at 5:30, tickets can be purchased in advance for $10.00 at https://secure.actblue.com/donate/rock2018.
