Qwest's 'Spirit of Service' Applauded During Challenging Times

High praise is pouring in for Qwest Communications after the championship game -- watched by more people around the world than ever before -- was held in Glendale, Ariz. Qwest technicians, planners, engineers and managers worked closely with the championship game’s host committee to make sure everyone’s needs were met. In Scottsdale, which was home to ESPN, Qwest technicians were praised for their "whatever it takes attitude.” "Qwest clearly assembled a dedicated and professional group of technicians,” said Peter Wychulis, ESPN senior network traffic coordinator. "Thank you for getting the job done. ESPN could not have had the success we did if it wasn't for you. Once again, hats off to all of your tireless efforts, expertise and professionalism.” Over the course of several months, Qwest installed 869 circuits to 24 venues across the Phoenix area -- from the stadium media center in Glendale to the Phoenix Convention Center where the world’s media gathered on "Radio Row.” "I guess those commercials are true about that Spirit of Service,” said John Benson with Carey Limousine Services. "Throughout my career I’ve been a part of many significant events,” said Scott Simanson, Qwest vice president and general manager. "The accomplishments by members of our team -- when the eyes of the world were on them -- speak to their dedication to living out what we call the Spirit of Service.” Qwest was even called out to help the New England Patriots. Not with their game plan, but with their communications needs. One Saturday evening the team needed the ability to uplink video from their location -- and the job had to be done that night. Qwest’s technicians worked through the night to install the service and make sure it was operating properly. High praise even came from a Qwest competitor who needed help completing a job at one of the newly built hotels adjacent to the University of Phoenix stadium. Many of the requests, such as this one, were made at the last minute requiring employees to put in longer than normal hours and speed up completion intervals without compromising quality.
