Paxar Corporation Updates First Quarter Outlook

    WHITE PLAINS, N.Y.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 5, 2005--Paxar Corporation (NYSE: PXR) today announced that it expects first quarter sales to be approximately $186 million and earnings per share to be approximately $0.13. Earnings per share does not include the impact of the closing of the Hillsville, Virginia, plant that is projected to be $0.03 to $0.04 per share.
    Arthur Hershaft, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, said, "Our first quarter was affected by a disappointing March due primarily to softness in European markets. In the month we experienced a later than anticipated seasonal upswing and we are currently in the process of evaluating this trend for the coming quarters and will report on it during the first quarter conference call."
    Paxar said that it will hold a conference call on April 25, 2005 to announce first quarter results and to provide an update on 2005 guidance.
