Nova Centre and Rogers to invigorate Halifax business community with one of the largest high-tech smart buildings in Atlantic Canada

Free Wi-Fi for visitors and thousands of kilometres of secure fibre makes Nova Centre one of the most connected and high-tech business spaces in the region

HALIFAX, Sept. 27, 2017 /CNW/ - Argyle Development announced today that Rogers Communications will provide all connectivity infrastructure for its state-of-the-art Nova Centre development in downtown Halifax, making it one of the most technologically connected commercial hubs in Atlantic Canada. As part of the agreement, Rogers has laid thousands of kilometres of network fibre in the one million square foot building, ensuring private, secure and dedicated network fibre for all tenants, including banks and financial services, the Halifax Convention Centre, restaurants and all future businesses that move into the building. In addition to Wi-Fi for tenants, this investment will allow more than 10,000 people inside the Convention Centre, and 3,000 in common areas, to enjoy free high-speed, always on connectivity inside of the building at the same time.

"The Nova Centre represents the best of Nova Scotia: her people, entrepreneurial spirit and innovative thinking" said Joe Ramia, President, Argyle Development. "With these state-of-the-art infrastructure investments from Rogers, this historic development will truly lead the way in showcasing the capabilities of high-speed, connected technology and the benefits they brings to businesses in this region."

Spanning two city blocks in the heart of Halifax, the Nova Centre will serve as a community hub unlike anything the city has seen before, for entertainment, retail, business, dining and events.  Incorporating the latest technology and the highest environmental standards as a LEED Gold Certified facility, it is the largest green building in the region. Three Rogers-built network connection telecom hubs, and 54 satellite communications rooms in the complex will power all network and communications systems throughout the Nova Centre facility.

"We are pleased to support the local business community with state-of-the-art connectivity as the Nova Centre's preferred technology supplier, and we remain committed to investing in Nova Scotia by supporting community and business efforts and offering technology solutions to businesses of all sizes," said Tom Turner, SVP, National Accounts and Regional Sales, Enterprise Business, Rogers. "Every year, thousands of local residents and visitors to Halifax will benefit from this new commercial landmark in Atlantic Canada."

In addition to being the Nova Centre's telecom service provider, Rogers has also named the plaza in the centre of the complex, which will house more than a thousand people for outdoor activities and festivals. Rogers Square will be a hub of activity for the wider Halifax community and visitors to the city.

Rogers will also open a retail space in the building in early 2018 and will offer enterprise services to new and future clients in the Nova Centre. This investment highlights the company's commitment to Nova Scotia and across Atlantic Canada. Check out a video of the technology in action: https://youtu.be/7D3w2QeBFh0
