No More Yahoo Maps

(RTTNews) - Yahoo! Inc said it would shut down its Maps site by the end of this month as part of efforts to align resources in line with priorities.

The Internet company is also removing support of Mail on older Apple devices, and dropping support for Yahoo Contacts on some older versions of Apple's Mac OS X.

"We made this decision to better align resources to Yahoo's priorities as our business has evolved since we first launched Yahoo Maps eight years ago," Yahoo chief architect Amotz Maimonwas is reported to have said in a blog post.

Once a popular site, Yahoo Maps has been surpassed by Google Maps, and not to be left behind, Apple is intensifying focus on its own map service.

Yahoo is also winding down some regional, genre-specific media properties in the coming weeks, and plans to redistribute it across the Yahoo network.

The affected properties include Yahoo Music in France and Canada and Yahoo Movies in Spain; Yahoo TV in Britain, France, Germany, Spain, Italy and Canada; and Yahoo Autos in Britain, France, Germany, Spain and Italy.
