Teamster volunteers from ABF Freight delivered the supplies to Houston and Beaumont, Texas.

The collections and shipments were coordinated by Ralph Stubbs, Jr., President of Teamsters Local 41 in Kansas City, Mo. and Zach Alden, a Local 41 member who is a road driver for ABF Freight. Jason Oldham, an ABF dockworker and member of Local 41, loaded the trucks along with Zach Corns, an ABF Local 41 member. Zach Alden and Rod Mullins with Local 41 drove the truck to Texas.

Tom Erickson, President of Local 120 in Blaine, Minn., also volunteered the use of his local's truck to deliver supplies. Karlin Bean and Paul Slattery, both with Local 120, made the delivery.

The items delivered included bottled water, diapers, wipes, deodorant and toothpaste.

"Thanks to the generosity of Teamsters from all the local unions within Joint Council 56, we are providing much-needed emergency supplies to the victims of hurricane Harvey," Stubbs said.

"I want to thank the members of all our local unions who stepped up to the plate and delivered for the hurricane victims in the Gulf," said Jim Kabell, President of Joint Council 56 and Secretary-Treasurer of Local 245 in Springfield, Mo.

Kabell said one truckload of supplies had already been delivered to Texas in a truck with Jerry Wood, President of Local 955 in Kansas City, Mo., and his mother, Jenni Agee, a retired Teamster.

"We applaud the response of our members in Missouri and Kansas who are stepping up to help the hurricane victims," said Jim Hoffa, Teamsters General President. "When Teamsters hear the call for help, they respond with their generosity and actions to assist those in need."

The Teamsters worked hand-in-hand with business leaders on this project. Thanks go to Lew Wiens with North Hotels for raising money for supplies, and a special thank you to John Ferguson of Ferguson Hotel Properties for a very generous donation to this effort.
