Michigan Community Action Agency Association Announces New Executive Director
OKEMOS, Mich., Aug. 19, 2013 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Board of Directors of the Michigan Community Action Agency Association (MCAAA) is pleased to announce that Katherine (Kate) Birnbryer White has been named its Executive Director. Ms. White will lead the organization in its efforts to increase the public's awareness of the contributions community action agencies are making to improve the lives of their clients and the quality of life in their communities.
MCAAA Board President John Stephenson said, "The Board of Directors looks forward to working with Kate. She will be an effective leader and champion of MCAAA's mission to provide information, and advocacy to facilitate institutional change directed towards the alleviation of the causes of poverty."
Ms. White is a seasoned nonprofit executive who has provided expertise, leadership, and advocacy for twenty four years. Before joining MCAAA, Ms. White served as the President & CEO of Elder Law of Michigan, Inc. In that capacity Ms. White grew a single statewide program into a state and national advocate in the fields of law, aging, elder abuse prevention, and the economically disadvantaged.
Ms. White is familiar with community service organizations and also has prior experience with the United Way of Genesee and Lapeer Counties, Operation ABLE of Michigan, and the Office of Services to the Aging. Ms. White is a graduate of Michigan State University where she earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Interdisciplinary Humanities.
Ms. White adds, "I am excited about joining the team at MCAAA. I am passionate about the work that is being done to help bring awareness to the diverse needs of communities throughout the state."
MCAAA is the state association of Michigan community action agencies that provide programs and services to help low income individuals and families achieve greater economic self-sufficiency and stability. Since 1975, MCAAA has supported the important work of its member agencies through advocacy with state and federal legislators, policymakers, professional development conferences, grant administration, and communication efforts.
