L-3 Communications (NYSE: LLL) announced today that itsInfrared Products division has released its newest dual sensor camera,the Thermal-Eye 2400xp, which unites visible and thermal imaging inone camera. The 2400xp, designed for military, law enforcement,executive security, covert operations, residential and industrialsecurity applications, uses L-3's Gold-Standard thermal imagingtechnology to detect intruders and protect assets. The camera featuressolar immunity, which allows it to stare directly into sunlightwithout the need for filters, so there is no degradation in imagequality.

The camera monitors the full perimeter in darkness, even inchallenging weather conditions, eliminating the need for enhancedlight. In addition, the Thermal-Eye 2400xp detects intruders andprotects assets with passive, non-intrusive technology.

The 2400xp offers Gold-Standard Barium Strontium Titanate (BST)thermal imaging technology to provide a clear 320 by 240-pixel image,while the high-resolution, fully automatic charge-coupled device (CCD)visible camera is equipped with a 25X optical zoom and 12X digitalzoom. In addition, the CCD is a low lux, near IR camera that allowsthe 2400xp to have two operational modes - regular daytime andlow-light operations. The unit is stationary-mounted and incorporatespan and tilt for 360-degree surveillance. To further add to itscapabilities, the 2400xp has optional graphical user interface (GUI)software that defines a region of interest automatically to detectmotion and provide intruder alarms. The unit is available in eitherNTSC or PAL video output formats.
