L-3 Communications Appoints Thomas Ripp to President of Security and Detection Systems Subsidiary

L-3 Communications (NYSE: LLL) announced today thatThomas M. Ripp has been appointed president of its Security andDetection Systems subsidiary, effective Monday, September 12, 2005. Hewill succeed Allen Barber, who has been appointed to the position ofgroup senior vice president of strategic planning within L-3's Sensorsand Simulation Group.

With over 25 years of general management, strategic planning andleadership experience, Mr. Ripp, age 47, was most recently the VicePresident of Sensors and Advanced Packaging for the DoverCorporation's Vectron International business, a manufacturer offrequency control products for the telecommunications, industrial,military and space markets. In this position, Mr. Ripp managed a newbusiness unit that developed new sensor technologies for the HomelandSecurity Marketplace. Mr. Ripp also held a variety of seniormanagement positions with Vectron International since 2000. Prior tothat, he served as president of the Interpoint Microelectronicsbusiness of Crane Co. Mr. Ripp also held positions at the GeneralInstrument Corporation, Raytheon, Grumman Aerospace and Proctor &Gamble.

Mr. Ripp received a Master of Business Administration from HofstraUniversity and a Bachelor of Arts from Holy Cross College.
